Ted Yoder is a solo musician who plays an instrument of startling complexity—the hammered dulcimer. With nearly a hundred shining strings strung across a sleek trapezoidal sounding board, it's a captivating sight! When you hear this amazing instrument played well, you won't forget it!
Sonically, Ted's music is similar to artists such as Jim Brickman, Yanni and Rich Mullins. Like his predecessors, his musical arrangements are fresh, energetic pieces of art.
In July of 2009 Ted released his debut CD, "Hymns." Fans have a lot to say about the CD and Ted's unique performances.
"Beautiful! I could listen to this all day."
"Your music is so amazing. I find that it touches me very deeply each time I listen. Your passion and inspired talent just bursts through the music."
"This stuff is phenomenal!"
"...a well thought out production. It would seem that the natural inclination of a record featuring the hammer dulcimer would tend to be folk or Celtic stylistically. Ted has turned this idea on its head by infusing elements of popular music trends with a classic approach on a timeless instrument. The net result is a wholly new style all his own that is trendy, slick, and very cool."
"An absolute unique expression of talent and passion."
Ted grew up in a small town in Indiana and learned at an early age how to please a crowd, singing 4 part harmonies in nursing homes with his parents and 5 siblings. The love of performing was deeply embedded through those experiences and today Ted still loves to sing an occasional folk song in his concerts. Ted naturally progressed from singing and piano lessons in childhood to keyboards and drum programming in his teenage years. When he was married in 1997, Ted and his wife, Donna, were already dreaming of purchasing a hammered dulcimer, so when his in-laws gave them the money as a wedding gift they were ecstatic! 12 years later Ted and Donna find themselves busy with 6 wonderful children, ages 11 to 1 year, and 1 very large dulcimer.
Some of Ted's larger public events include the Aurora Artwalk, opening act for Jeff and Sheri Easter in Anderson, IN, Nappanee Apple Festival, Gaither Fall Festival and playing on open stage at Gebhard Woods Dulcimer Festival.
This unique instrument draws a crowd, and because Ted is a solo musician, you can easily bring him to your event. Ted will customize his concert to fit a large concert hall or a small gathering. His repertoire includes modern contemporary christian music, a sprinkling of classical selections, hymns and his own original compositions.
